My mission:

I help companies select appropriate accounting software, and help them to use it efficiently.
My expertise lies with Adagio^® Accounting (developed by Softrak Systems) and ACCPAC Plus^™ (by Sage Accpac), plus related software, such as Crystal Reports^® and Microsoft^® Excel.

At least one full time accountant or bookkeeper
No internal computer department
Five to 200 employees
A nagging feeling that its accounting procedures are less than optimal
The willingness to rely on one competent senior consultant, not on an ever-shifting cast of entry-level consultants.

Who am I?

Robert E. Schwoeffermann, an ACCPAC^® /Adagio consultant with more than 24 years' experience in supporting both product lines.

For ACCPAC Plus users looking to move to a Windows solution, Adagio is the most natural upgrade path, much more natural than ACCPAC's own Windows solutions. In fact, Adagio was specifically designed as a way to ease ACCPAC Plus users into the Windows world.
For users of QuickBooks^®, Peachtree^®, OneWrite Plus^® and other similar packages, Adagio is the next step up in terms of both price and feature set. Its price range ($2K to $10K) is reasonable, and its ability to handle large transaction volumes, complicated inventory management, and flexible invoicing are common reasons users look to move up from the lower lever packages.
Softrak Systems, the developer of Adagio, is wonderful to work with. Their technical support department is obsessively helpful, the higher ups are responsive to suggestions for improvement, and the whole company treats end users and business partners with respect.
Adagio works as advertised!

Because ACCPAC Plus is written in DOS, it is not for sale, and is no longer being supported by Sage. Nonetheless, there are thousands of diehard ACCPAC Plus users, and if you are still one, you will probably agree with the statement, “It still works”.

I intend to continue to provide consulting services to ACCPAC Plus users. Also, the pluscommunity.com forum is a way of getting tech support from experts worldwide.

ACCPAC Plus requires tweaking to work with the latest Windows operating systems and the latest monitors and printers. It is not always compatible with anti-virus software, and sometimes it just unexplainably fails to run properly.

Some day, tweaking will not work. Even satisfied users of ACCPAC Plus, at least those who expect to remain in business for the foreseeable future, should be planning to replace it with Windows software, and the first place to look is Adagio. This is especially true, now that Sage has announced that all support for ACCPAC Plus, including tax table updates, is discontinued effective the end of 2006.

Support is a huge component of any accounting system. I consistently provide prompt, proficient support on all the software I install and/or recommend. I also only recommend software from companies that provide a high level of support.

	Island Microsystems develops CounterSales, a point of sale system that integrates with Adagio and ACCPAC.
	AIM Services Inc. has developed a variety of number changer utilities for Adagio, which allow you to change Item Numbers, GL Account Codes, Customer Numbers and Vendor Numbers. Products like these can be life savers!
	linXware provides a CRM (Customer Relations Management) application, fully integrated with ACCPAC or Adagio.
	Paymate is a Payroll system that integrates with Adagio or ACCPAC.
	21st Century's US Payroll for Adagio is a full-featured, stand-alone US Payroll application that produces a batch for retrieval by Adagio Ledger, for easy editing and posting in Adagio.
	PlusCommunity is an independent site that provides technical support forums and directories for companies who use or support software compatible with database structures used by ACCPAC International, such as ACCPAC or Adagio.
	Purple's Purchase Orders for Adagio complements the Adagio suite of products. It interfaces and interchanges information with Adagio modules.
